Darrell Brooks is seeking to appeal his conviction for driving his SUV into a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, last year, killing six people and injuring dozens more.
Brooks was found guilty by a jury in the attack and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He received a life sentence for each of the six counts of first-degree intentional homicide, to be served consecutively, along with hundreds of hours of confinement for dozens of other criminal charges.

Brooks, 40, filed a handwritten notice of intent on Tuesday to seek post-conviction relief in Waukesha County Circuit Court, initiating the appeal process.
"It is not my intention to bring any controversy before the court, but it is my intention to have this postconviction relief matter reviewed and heard as quickly as possible as there are clear issues of the law and the legal facts in this matter," he wrote in the notice, which was signed from Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin.

Additionally, Brooks made a request to have assistance from the public defender's office. He had represented himself during the trial and was temporarily removed multiple times by Judge Jennifer Dorow for disrupting the proceedings.
Court records show the notice of intent to seek post-conviction relief was sent to the state public defender.
Brooks needed to initiate an appeal within 20 days of the sentencing, starting with filing the notice of intent to pursue post-conviction relief. The appeal process could take months, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
A jury found Brooks guilty in October on all 76 counts for barreling his SUV into a Christmas parade on Nov. 21, 2021.
Dorow sentenced Brooks two weeks ago during a two-day hearing that featured emotional statements from dozens of victims and the family members of those killed and injured.

Hijo golpea a su padre en la cara porque no le dio una cartera
⭐ WAPA TV ⭐ #puertorico #wapa En otro caso de agresión entre familiares, un hijo de 35 años golpeó este fin de semana a su padre en Fajardo porque solamente este no darle una cartera que pidió. El agresor fue identificado como Rogelio Ramos Herrera y la víctima fue Rogelio Ramos Fontanez, de 81 años de edad. Los hechos fueron investigados por agentes del Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales (CIC) de Fajardo, quienes descubrieron que el hombre le pidió la cartera a su padre y, al este no entregársela, lo agredió con las manos en el rostro. El incidente fue el 25 de noviembre en la avenida El Conquistador. Por lo fuerte del ataque, Ramos Fontanez sufrió fracturas en la cara y quedó en condición de cuidado. Tras la pesquisa, la Fiscalía de Fajardo radicó cargos por agresión agravada, maltrato a persona de edad avanzada, tentativa de robo y apropiación ilegal. El caso fue llevado ante la presencia de la jueza Geisha Marrero, quien luego de escuchar la prueba determinó causa para arresto y fijó una fianza de $120,000. Ramos Herrara no la prestó y fue ingresado a la Cárcel Regional de Bayamón. La vista preliminar del caso quedó pautada para el 7 de diciembre. Bodycam video shows Ross County deputy shooting
Surveillance and body camera video released by the Ross County Sheriff’s Office shows what transpired between a man and a deputy before the two exchanged gunfire.
In the video, 42-year-old Nicholas Mitchell is seen walking around the building and approaching a door on the back side of the sheriff’s office.
Mitchell then knocks on a full-length window by the door before pacing in a parking lot. Sgt. Eric Kocheran then opens the door roughly 20 seconds later.
In Kocheran's body camera video, Mitchell asks for help and for Kocheran to get a couple more officers.
When asked why, Mitchell says somebody said they're going to hurt his family and they wanted him to hurt kids. He then says he can't do that, so he has to do this and pulls out a gun.
Kocheran responds by telling Mitchell multiple times to put the weapon down as he draws his gun.
Mitchell then fires a shot and Kocheran returns fire through the open door from inside the building. Mulitple shots were fired before Mitchell falls to the ground.
Kocheran was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus in serious condition. As of Friday afternoon, there has been no update on his condition.
Mitchell was taken to a hospital in the Chillicothe area and died from his injuries.
Ross County Sheriff George Lavender requested that the Ohio BCI investigate the incident.

When Briana Tyler went to work on Tuesday night, what she thought would be a quiet shift quickly ended in bloodshed.
Tyler, an employee at the Walmart on Sam's Circle in Chesapeake, Virginia, said she and her coworkers were gathered in the break room at the start of their shifts at around 10 p.m. local time, discussing which section of the store each employee would be working in that night.
"As soon as my team said, 'All right, we have a light night tonight,' I looked up and my manager just opened the door and he just opened fire," Tyler recalled during an interview with ABC News on Wednesday. "He wasn't aiming at anybody specifically. He just literally started shooting throughout the entire break room and I watched multiple people just drop down to the floor, whether they were trying to duck for cover or they were hit."
Tyler said the alleged gunman -- identified by authorities as 31-year-old Andre Bing of Chesapeake -- looked "directly at" her and fired but "luckily missed" her head by "an inch or two."
"He didn't say a word, he didn't say anything at all," she noted. "I literally hadn't even seen him before that point. He just came around the corner and started shooting. The first person that was in his eyesight, he shot him down and the next thing you know, he just started rigging throughout the entire break room but he did not say a word."

At least six people were killed and four others were injured before the suspect -- wielding a pistol -- shot himself dead, according to the Chesapeake Police Department.
Police received the initial 911 call at 10:12 p.m. local time and officers responded to the scene within two minutes. They entered the Walmart at 10:16 p.m. local time, where they found multiple gunshot victims as well as the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The scene was declared safe by 11:20 p.m. local time, according to police.
Law enforcement sources told ABC News that authorities are investigating whether the shooting was a case of workplace violence.

Tyler said she had heard from other employees when she first started working at the Walmart about two months ago that Bing "was the manager to look out for because there was always something going on with him, just having an issue with someone."
"But I never expected it to get to this level of an issue, like I don't know of anything that had happened recently," she told ABC News. "He was the manager that everybody, you know, had something to say about. [But] I would've never thought he would do something like this."
Jessie Wilczewski had only been working at the store for five days when the deadly shooting unfolded. She said she plays the events of that night over and over in her mind.
"When I sleep, like, it still plays, bits and pieces, so I can't run away from it," Wilczewski tearfully told ABC News during an interview on Thursday. "I had to sit there on the floor and, in front of me, watch my coworker have her last moments."
Wilczewski, a mother to a 15-month-old boy, said Bing spared her life. She said she believes the attack was targeted and that she was let go because she had not worked there long.
"I looked at him after I got up from under the table and he saw it was me," she recalled. "He had the gun pointed at me and he went like this and put the gun up. And then he just looked at me and said, 'Jessie go home.'"
Another employee, Kevin Harper, said he was sitting in the break room after arriving early for his Tuesday night shift. But something didn't feel right -- so he left. Moments later, he said he heard around three or four muffled gunshots and ran into a clothes hanger to hide.
"I couldn't tell you how long I hid in there," Harper told ABC News during an interview on Wednesday. "Time just stopped at that moment."
Harper recalled running as fast as he could out of the store's employee entrance. On his way out, he said he saw two people on the floor, including a woman covered in blood.
“I’m just praying for my Walmart family,” he added.
According to Harper, Bing was known for nitpicking the work of certain employees. Harper said he never had any problems with Bing but that others did and complained about him.
Chesapeake resident Terri Brown said she was shopping at the Walmart earlier that night before gunshots rang out.
"There are no words," Brown told Hampton ABC affiliate WVEC on Tuesday night. "To see this unfold, to be a part of this, to know that this crime occurred so close to me and I was literally in that store. It's terrifying."

A Walmart spokesperson confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that Bing worked at the store in Chesapeake as an overnight team lead and had been an employee since 2010.
"We are shocked at this tragic event," the spokesperson added. "We're praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We're working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates."
During a press conference on Wednesday morning, Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky described the shooting as "senseless violence."
"This investigation is still ongoing, so there's no clear motive at this time," Solesky told reporters. "We'll be processing that scene for days."
Chesapeake Mayor Rick West, who tested positive for COVID-19 and could not attend Wednesday's press conference, issued a statement saying he was "devastated by the senseless act of violence that took place late last night in our city."
"My prayers are with all those affected -- the victims, their family, their friends and their coworkers," West said. "I am grateful for the quick actions taken by our first responders who rushed to the scene. Chesapeake is a tight-knit community and we are all shaken by this news. Together, we will support each other throughout this time. Please keep us in your prayers."
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said in a statement early Wednesday that he remains "in contact with law enforcement officials" and has "made available any resources as this investigation moves forward."
"Our hearts break with the community of Chesapeake this morning," Youngkin added. "Heinous acts of violence have no place in our communities."

The gunman who killed six people at a Walmart in Virginia was a store manager, a source familiar with the case told YNN.
The manager, who was known as an overnight “team lead” for the store in Chesapeake, had worked at the Walmart since 2010, the source said.
Investigators believe the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky said Wednesday morning. But his identity has not been released because his next of kin had not been notified.
The motive behind the massacre remains a mystery.

The deadly rampage started around 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, less than an hour before the Walmart Supercenter was set to close.

Investigators swept the store overnight into Wednesday, searching for victims or people who may have been hiding, Chesapeake Police spokesperson Leo Kosinski told YNN earlier.
Officers responded to the Walmart around 10:12 p.m. – less than an hour before it was set to close.
The shooting, which came two days ahead of Thanksgiving as customers were doing last-minute shopping, is yet another instance of how gun violence erupts in American life in places traditionally seen as safe, from schools to stores and even hospitals.

At the University of Virginia in Charlottesville – which is about 170 miles west of Chesapeake – a 22-year-old student allegedly opened fire on fellow students this month, killing three of them on a bus returning to campus from a field trip to Washington, DC.
Last weekend, a 22-year-old shot and killed five people at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and 19 others were injured, authorities said.
Tuesday’s shooting happened as the US has recorded more than 600 mass shootings so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The archive and YNN tally a mass shooting as one involving at least four killed or injured, not including the shooter.

“I’m crying, I’m shaking,” Jeffery told YNN. “I had just talked to her about buying turkeys for Thanksgiving, then this text came in.”

Jeffery said her mother is uninjured but in shock, and they’ve been reunited.
Chesapeake city officials have asked people to stay away from the store during the investigation.
“Our first responders are well-trained and prepared to respond; please give them space to do so,” the city tweeted.
A reunification center was set up at the Chesapeake Conference Center, city officials said. They are asking that only immediate family and emergency contacts for people who were in the store go to the center.

In a statement, Walmart said it’s shocked at the tragedy that unfolded in one of its stores.
